Home

I finally had to go home. Didn't want to as there is so much work to do to get out of the house. Renee and Carla came over and packed everything up for an Estate sale. So many memories were discovered going through our stuff. Thankfully Gloria had gotten rid of most of her personnel stuff so we didn't have to deal with it.

On the way home I stopped by Ricks place to see how he was coming with his garage construction. It is moving right along. As you can see his place is looking good.

This is Daisy on the left and her big sister Emma. They are the cutest little girls in the subdivision. Gloria knitted them baby sweaters and kept them supplied with cookies. They are modeling the dresses I got them in Mexico.

Their family is going to be raising chickens for eggs and pleasure. I can't remember much pleasure from chickens until we eat them.

Andy did a good job building the pen. The roost is fixed so the droppings fall on board under it and it is removable for cleaning. (See what a college education can do for you.)

This is Andy admiring is work. He buried the hardware cloth eight inch's deep to discourage Raccoons from getting his egg factories.

Dinner with my family and a friend.

It looks like Larry is sleeping but he is just moving his chair up to the table. Rick is having a drink. Nova Ann and Larry fixed a fine dinner T bone steaks baked potato's and salad.
This is a class mate of mine and friend of every one in the room. She is on the left. Ricks wife Joann is on the right.

This is Shirley Minton- ? I never asked for her last name. When we were in school she was "Toots". She lost her husband several years ago. She is cutting her steak in half and sharing it with Nova Ann. The steaks were enormous. I never got a photo of Nova Ann as she never sits still. We had a great time remembering the good old days. I had to talk Shirley into going as she is recovering from "walking pneumonia".
I will be home later today. I can't put it off any longer.

Florence

From Coos Bay I traveled fifty miles to Florence to meet with the Rim Rock Roamers an RV group associated with Family Motor Coach Association We meet once a month April to September. A good group and we have a good time. We eat a lot. Cooking on this trip was a real challenge as it was cold and raining every day.
Our meeting room was "rustic" as the Bend Elks RV club was also here and had reserved the club house with the cook stove and heaters.

We made due and had good meals and conversations. Caught up with friends and families related our travel and winter stories.

Once again I was with Terry and Dave. Renee and Carla joined me in Florence and we went to Depot Bay to visit them there. Had lunch and visited the docks there. My girls L-R Carla Terry Renee. This is the first time I had seen Carla since I lost my wife. It was good.

This is Peter checking a pot of "omelet in a bag" a very good way to feed a large group. You put all the stuff you like in a zip lock bag, squeeze the air out seal it and put in boiling water for about 5-10 minuets and you have an omelet add hash browns and toast you have breakfast.

There is about a dozen omelets in this pot. All cooked to perfection. Each bag has it's owners name on it so you don't get the wrong omelet.

Second breakfast was French toast and sausage Carla is getting hers.

After breakfast Renee, Carla and I went to the Sea lion caves and the Oregon Aquarium. Carla's camera died and I let her us mine after we left the caves. She didn't take any pictures in the aquarium. Sorry.

Two of my favorite girls. (I have nine) At the cave over look.

Coos Bay

This is my view in Coos Bay. My daughter and her husband arrived while I was at dinner.

All I did while in Coos Bay was eat. This is the best Crab Omelet money can buy. You can get it at the "Mill Casino" in North Bend for only$10

This is dinner at the CB Elks a very good stew for $6. While in Coos Bay I visited with many friends. I got lucky when I was asking for directions I found my barber of many years " Kim" didn't get a photo but did get a beard trip, and we got caught up on each others life and family.

This is John and Dee Lawrence They were our neighbors in Coos Bay for thirteen years. I think we saw them more after we moved as they had a time share in Mazatlan and we saw them every winter for the seven years that we wintered there. In Coos Bay we were all working and only saw them occasionally. It was harder to go back to Coos Bay than I had thought it would be. So many good memories. It will be easier next time.

This the "Old guys" the retired BLM men meet on Tuesday morning for breakfast and coffee. The guy that looks like he is smoking is Bob Mason He hired me in at the Salem District in 1959. I followed him to Coos Bay in 1980. Tom Russler is facing the camera on the left front. I visited him and his lovely Ruth wife for coffee at their home. You can't see Terry Evens one of our oldest friends in Coos Bay. He and Ellen had me in for dinner. Of coarse I forgot to take my camera. We had a very nice dinner with them and Craig Byers. Truly the highlight of my visit.

Two days of driving

No photos today. I left Yuma late Fri. (11 AM) Got stuck in a service station that had blocked its exit. Had to unhook the car fuel up and the re hook up. Favorite restaurant in Quartzite was closed so had breakfast in Parker at 1: PM. Made Pahrump late. Left Pahrump early today (after my three mile walk 55 min) . Arrived in Fallon about 4: PM just over 400 miles and stopped. Did some washing. Will leave here early and stop at Howard and Edna Lee's place in the morning. Should be in Medford or Grants Pass tomorrow.

Two good days and one bummer.

If you follow this blog, you know I have met a very nice lady. Her daughter works with my daughter in law, Ali. They were talking one day and said "hey", exchanged their parents phone numbers and that is how I met Mary. This is the bummer day. We had planned a dinner and a movie for tonight. This morning Mary called and said she broke a tooth at the gum line and might not be able to make dinner. I had planned a very romantic dinner at my place. "Sweet salsa fish" (halibut fresh off the boat) on a bed of rice. Mary had surgery on her tooth couldn't eat anything hot and the bad part was no alcohol. I made GAZPACHO and it was excellent. Mary took the left overs and the recipe.
Mary came for dinner anyway and fed the ducks at my door. This is the first time I have seen ducks in the park. They always stay on the lake.
They sure liked the stale bread.

The first good day was the trip into Mexico. The second good day started at Juliana's Patio Café. Those of you that have been here know what a fine restaurant it is.

The Parrots were very noisy today. However these are file photos as my camera refused to read the card. We were really pumped for lunch had planned it for two days. A shared Reuben sandwich with a salad. No Corned beef so no Reuben. Shared a great Prime Rib sandwich and salad. This is the fist time Mary and been to Juliana's and very impressed. Then we took a bus (van) to Phoenix to the ball game.

If you look close you can see a Diamond Back slithering around the field.

The evil Manny.

The mascot

The running in place hot dogs. Can't figure what that was all about.

The field of play. Our seats were just inside the right field foul pole in the second level fourth row. This was the free food section. Free hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks. $70. That included the bus from Yuma.

This is Mary, the ultimate fan. She sings and dances, claps her hands (or leg) if she is eating

Two fans with their rally hats on. It didn't help Diamond Backs lost big time.

Mary's trip to Mexico

This is my new "best friend" Mary Spittler. She had never been to Mexico by car because every one said it isn't safe. So we went to Pôrto Penasco for lunch traveling through El Glofo to wade in the Sea of Cortes. The roads are so much better than they were two years ago. The new road from San Luis is a ten dollar toll and well Worth it. They have paved many new streets in El Glofo also. Drove the new road to Puerto Penasco. A high speed road with very little traffic.

Dipping her toes in the water and then a long walk down the beach.
Reading the placards in town.

Lunch at the point. A very good restaurant in tow.

This is for Terry. From the waters edge at the Reef. Looking down the beach front sites. Count the rigs. 3
I have several more photos but the bloger doesn't like them and wont post them.

Cinco De Mayo????

As you all know I said I was going to the Cinco De Mayo Fiesta in old town Las night. Well it was a big let down. A Fiesta hs singers and dancers. Right. Well this one had two vocalist and many dancers. But.........................

The dancers were not your typical Hat Dancers. They were really nice and danced well but Mexican they weren't. After taking way to many photos I went into the Casino and had a hamburger and a Mexican Beer. Then went home.

Not bored today!!!

Our favorite Italian restraint in Yuma is the Ciao Bella. They make a Cioppino that is to die for.
In Gloria's Heart Association Cookbook they have a recipe for Cioppino, so I made some. It is good, but not Ciao Bella good. They put spaghetti in theirs so I did too. It isn't in the book.
As you know I have taken up walking three miles each morning. This morning I found a bunch of stuff in an unused irrigation ditch. I saw a police "Duty Belt" and three or four duffel bags with a lot of "stuff" laying around. When I got to the house I called the Sheriff's office and they sent an officer out and I led him to the stuff. It turned out it was stuff that was taken from a Border Patrolman's car two days ago. So the Border Patrol sent out a supervisor. We had quite a group out here. One of the things that was in there was the Border Patrolman's Social Security Card so they knew where it all belonged.

Here you can see the oxygen bottle in the EMT bag.

This is the county sheriff getting the stuff out of the ditch.

This is the sheriff taking photos.

This is some of the personnel stuff and the EMT bag before it was moved to the road.

In this photo you can see the Border Patrol hat part of the "Duty Belt" and stuff that was removed from the EMT kit. The duty belt had a ten round clip for an M16 and it was fully loaded.

This is the way I found the stuff. The OD bag at the top of the photo had four twenty round clips for the M16 fully loaded. It also had head lamps flash lights and lots of other stuff.
So today had something going on.
This is all the stuff in the ditch. You could not see it from the road if you were in the drivers seat. The deputy drove right by it and returned to my place. I met him on the road. When I stopped at the office to get the mail Ken had sent me, the manager wanted to know if I was alright. Her husband told her the sheriff stopped at my place the first time he was in and left in a big hurry the second time. She thought I might be sick.

There is going to be a big Cinco De Mayo party in Old Town Fri. Film at eleven.
