Carnival El Golfo style

This Parade has been put on for seven consecutive years by the El Golfo park it is one of the high lights of the year for El Golfo. We were escorted by the Police and the city ambulance. They swept the sand off the street and graded the sand road from the park to town. Which made it nice for us as we were leaving the next day and had a smooth road to travel on. No washboards.

The "Power Ranger " says "lets geterdun!

The "Hula dancers are ready".

The Suzuki is ready to roll.

Gloria is ready to go. She threw out twenty $ of candy. There were over thirty floats all giving candy or toys. One lady said she gave out over 500 necklaces.

This float carried "hula dancers". I think they got an early start as one of the dancers fell off the float. The only accident in the parade.

The Power Ranger made a big hit with the kids as the "Power Rangers" are big on Mexican TV. In real life he is a retired Army Ranger and pilot of the flying wing that flew over the Olympics.

This is the King and Queen's float. We had to take photos as we were going. The "park photographer" was in Yuma for the day.

This is the main intersection in town. The school is on the right. If you look you will recognize some of the children. They followed the parade and kept up so they could get more candy.

All work stopped during the parade. This worker finally came down and picked up some candy.

This is the parade route. The towns people were told to stand on the right side of the road. We had guards to keep the children back. You can see the bags filled with candy and toys that were thrown by the the floats.

This is the Mayor's review stand. You must remember that El Golfo is a very small town.

King Joe and Queen Dee relaxing after the parade.

After the parade we retired to the local bar to unwind.

Here are the Dancing Widows. It is about six thirty PM. I asked them, "Have you been drinking Margaritas since three today?" No it was two fifteen they said.

These are the dancing widows, doing back up for the Master of Ceremonies.

Grand Prize winners for best float. They carried the King and Queen.
