REDMOND (Dry canyon) WALK

This is where I start and finish my walk in Redmond. There is a long canyon running North and South through the center of town. The city has developed it with paved trails and many parks
They have kept the lawns in the developed areas in perfect condition.

Most of the trail has been left natural. I was making todays walk just after sunrise. There was a lot of traffic on the trail even at this early hour.

Two of the three tennis courts were being used.

In the back ground you can see the canyon walls, at this location they are low.

Across from the tennis courts is a covered picnic area that can be reserved. Again note the lawn.

At MP 0.9 there is a large "Dog Park" where you Can let Fido run free of a leash. Well fenced.

There are three dogs in there the small black and white one was being picked on by the two larger ones.

Here you can see the canyon is getting deeper. There homes all along the rim rocks.

Some of the access trails are steeper than others. The farther North you go the deeper it gets.

In this photo there is a guy working his German Short hair but they don't show. I didn't bring my big lens today. He had a retrieving dummy that he would throw up into a rocky slope as far as he could and send the dog after it on a "blind retrieve" useing hand signals to guide the dog. The dog worked very fast. It was fun to watch.

This is 1.52 miles from my car and where I turn back. The time I spend taking photos and talking to other walkers doesn't count as walking time on my GPS.

Had to get a picture of this home. It over where I stop and I couldn't get one from there. You have seen where I walk in Redmond. It took 48 minuets to do 3.4 Miles today. (walking time)

WHERE TO BEGIN

The reason I haven't been posting lately as I have been very busy. Entertaining, traveling to Portland and attending a Rally with my RV group. The fallowing is a long catch up.
My new teeth.
My new glasses. (note one is full)

My dear friend Mary Spittler came to hold my hand during my dental surgery. I gave her a short tour of the Sisters area. We started at Rick and Ali's where we used what she called the "best swing ever".

Then we went to the head of the Metolius River. A must see feature in the area.

Where Mary did her favorite thing. Feeding "Golden Mantel Ground Squirrels"

We then went to Suttle Lake for some fishing (no catching). While there Mary wanted to "feed the geese". The restaurant provided us with very stale bread that she couldn't break up to feed them, so I broke up the bread gave it to Mary who fed the geese. Apparently I didn't do it fast enough, because the geese started pecking my legs and pants. They grab you then twist. Mary thought it was very funny as did the staff in the restaurant as we could see them laughing at my plight. No photos as I couldn't break bread dance away from the geese and take pictures. They wouldn't rent us a boat as there were thunder storms in the area. Rick came up and joined us for a very good dinner (last dinner for a while) he also sprung for the bill.

The next day I took Mary to Crater Lake National Park. A must see if you are in Oregon.

Once again Mary breaks the rules of all parks and feeds the squirrels. This was a theme of the day.

Here is the stuffed critter packing yet another nut in its cheek.

Wizard Island in a pool of blue. It was a gorgeous day.

This is the "Phantom Ship" it is located in the South East corner of the lake.

Out crops along the Lake shore. Note the blue.

Did I mention that the water is BLUE? There isn't anything bluer than Crater Lake.

Here Mary is contributing to the delinquency of a minor by giving nuts to a kid and telling him how to present it properly.

Close up of the "Phantom Ship"

One of Mary's over fed friends. (Note the puffed out cheeks.)

Steve called and asked us to go to the "Needles" area and get photos of the original Park Entrance that is now abandoned. So glad he did. I haven't ever been to the unique area of the park.

Very unusual formations in the volcanic ash.

This is the sign Steve wanted. It is about half mile from the trail head. Needs some help that it won't get.

After the park we went to Diamond Lake to fish. We only got one and returned it back into the lake. Mary asked me not to post this photo. But she is so happy. And it is my Blog!!
The following photos were taken by Mary the day after my surgery. I am lucky she didn't leave me. On the day of my surgery I took her to meet my neighbors, then took her the dentist the back way. I was to take a pill forty minutes before the procedure. If I didn't feel anything I was to take another one. I did. About five minuets before I was called into the "chair". I remember sitting down. Vaguely remember talk about a "wheel chair". Mary had to find out how to get back to the coach on her own as I was out of it. I also left her with an empty gas tank. I don't remember a thing about the surgery at all (thats a good thing).

We went to the summit on the old McKenzie highway. A very scenic area where there are lots of squirrels and no rules. (Also on this day no squirrels)

Mt. Washington behind massive lava flows.

Mt Jefferson.

North and Middle Sisters.

Another shot of Mt. Washington.

I attended the FMCA (FAMILY MOTOR HOME ASSOCIATION) International Rally in Redmond OR. We met with about 2,000 other motor home owners and 600 vender's of things you really don't need for your coach. I bought new covers for my bedroom slide outs. The originals were shot. I replaced the front room cover two years ago. Must apologize as these photos are out of sequence. Last first, first last. (got to work on that)

They had a "Jimmy Buffet" sound alike band entertain one night. Some of our gang are "Parrot Heads".

At least two of the ladies in our group went to a "three minute" make up booth. Not that they needed it. Here Pat is finished.

I don't think she wanted her photo taken while she was being worked on.

Helen however was happy to show the results of her three minute make over. The guy behind her is from another booth and was bored out of his mind. He was pounding down beer all afternoon.

Here the ladies are in line for the make overs (note the guy in the back ground with his beer).

Each evening we had a "happy hour" and enjoyed many treats and a little liquid refreshment.

This is the view from the roof of my coach. Just a few of the coaches parked in our section. With the ever present mountains in the background.

I went to Portland to see a screening of trailers of the film Carla is working on. Of coarse being the great Grandparent I am I forgot to take my camera to the theater. I did however take it on my walk. I found the "Bite of Oregon" festival down on the water front. It was early on the first day and they weren't open for business. So I was able to wander about and take photos. Two of the vender's thought I was an official photographer so they were Happy to let me take pictures.

I think it should be more of a "Drink of Oregon" as there were mostly Beer, wine and coffee booths.

With one tasty exception. Wonder what happened to the missing cup cake?

In the afternoon I accompanied Carla and her film crew on a "head shot" photo shoot. They took about four hundred shots of Carla.

We went down to the water front where we were joined by the director of the film. He had some suggestions on lighting and back grounds.

They used three different reflectors to get the light just right. Any one who thinks acting is easy should try a "head shot" session. Four hours in the heat. Grandpa sat the last two at the house.
